I was unaware that in a different time women actually contained a form of leadership and power within the catholic church. I doubt highly that the new pope will make such radical changes in our lifetime because of the slow ‘evolving’ pace of the Catholic Church. However, that being said, if in the future the Catholic Church is unable to modernize and adapt to the current status of the world then I could see how they would make a shift.
A side note that has been on my mind about all this is that in past times, when churches make such a crucial decision there are often splinter groups- could this occur with the current papacy assuming that he makes radical shifts.
